As part of the hotel’s new policy of diversity, equity, and inclusion,

the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila (where I worked last summer) has

hired and will start training a local young man, Marvin, who has Down

syndrome.  I’m super excited about this news because it is the first

time that the hotel has employed a worker with Down syndrome and I am

hopeful that Marvin will do a good job.

My former colleagues tell me that Marvin will start his training

rotation as a greeter and doorman, and judging from the pictures I’ve

seen, Marvin is happy and guests will love being greeted by his warm

and infectious smile.

This is a truly inspirational feel-good story as Marvin and his mother

until recently were homeless, and these new jobs— the hotel has hired

Marvin’s mother for training as well— will allow them a path out of

poverty and a shot at a life-long career in hospitality.

Good luck, Marvin! We’re all cheering for you and your mom!
